Culture of Innovation

Our culture of innovation seeks to challenge the MIIS community to introspection – surfacing new ideas, reinventing old ones, and sparking cross-program conversations. In 2012, we hope to spearhead a campus wide storytelling project to capture our community identity. ‪More details about this project will be posted soon.

In 2011, the 2011 InnovateABLEs competition prompted twenty-one game changing submissions, from increasing networking opportunities on campus to fashionable MIIS gear. The top three teams pitched their big ideas at TEDxMonterey 2011 “Cultivating Innovation.”

TEDxMonterey

For three years running, the Digital Learning Commons has been the driving force behind the independently organized TEDxMonterey conferences, inspiring the Monterey community through ideas worth spreading and connecting us with innovators, scientists, artists, community activists, and global dreamers. Catch up with recent TEDxMonterey events:

Web & Social Media Strategy Team

As home to the Monterey Institute’s web and social media efforts, the Digital Learning Commons team is committed to creating professional multimedia content and leveraging social networks to showcase our community’s achievements. Our interdepartmental web strategy team meets every other Thursday at 11am on the second floor of the Kade Center or Craig Building (whichever you know it by!)

blogs.miis.edu

The MIIS blogging community is open to all students, alumni, faculty, staff, and campus clubs. You have the opportunity to create a online personal portfolio, start a group blog, or reach a wider audience outside of the MIIS community. Check out our latest online experiments such as Summer in the Field and the Communique online magazine.

L10N @ MIIS

This project is a professional development opportunity for Translation and Localization Management and Translation & Interpretation students to localize the Monterey Institute’s web content and create online marketing campaigns in multiple languages.
Check out our first L10N project, localizing the Translation and Localization Management page into seven languages.

MIIS Radio

In creating “the voice of the MIIS community,” this project intends to be a space where the MIIS community share their stories, establish and reinforce relationships, as well as promote and reflect upon issues affecting the institute, the local community, and the world at large.
