For Windows Outlook 2010

1. In Outlook, display the folder list by the clicking Folder List icon or the menu item in the lower section the left navigation menu. Additional folders display at the bottom of the folder section of the left nav window (where your Inbox, Sent, Deleted etc. are listed). Scroll to the bottom of the folder section.

2. Click the small triangle left of “Public Folders” to expand the Public Folders list. Then click the triangle left of “All Public Folders” to expand that list.

3. Scroll down to find the Monterey Travel Calendar.

4. Right click on the calendar and select Add to Favorites.

5. In the pop-up window click the Add button. Adding to favorites will make the calendar available where your own calendar is listed.

6. Go to the calendar section of Outlook and Monterey Travel Calendar is listed in the left nav under a sub-section called Other Calendars.

7. Click the check box left of the name to display the calendar.

 For Mac Outlook 2011

1. In Outlook, from the Tools menu, select Public Folders… The Folder Browser will display with a list of public folders and calendars.

2. Scroll down the list and select Monterey Travel Calendar, then click the green Subscribe button in the upper left of the window.

3. Go back to the main calendar view.

4. On the View menu, make sure Navigation Pane is checked.

5. In the Navigation Pane, check the box next to Monterey Travel Calendar which is listed under Subscribed Public Folders.

6. In Day, Work or Week view, you will see the Midd/MIIS travel entries in the “all day” row at the top of the calendar.

Once you have published this page.  Select Settings on the left tool bar and then select Reading.  Under Reading set the front page so that it displays a static page and select the Posts page you have just created titled “Blog.”

To do this select the Plugins from your left toolbar:

Then find the ShareThis plugin and click Activate:

Now a few options will appear at the bottom of your blog posts allowing readers to share your story:

Check your settings by clicking Settings, and then Discussion.

To enable prospective students, alumni, or anyone else to comment on the blog, make sure the box next to “Users must be registered and logged in to comment” is unchecked.

Comments will always be held for moderation if the box next to “An administrator must always approve the comment” is checked.

Make the appropriate changes and click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

Recent comments will be displayed in the dashboard where you can approve the comments directly.

Hover over the comment and click Approve. If the comment is approved, you will see “Unapprove”.

You will also be notified by the two comment features below:

Manage comments by clicking Comments on the left menu column.

Adding a forum to your blog is easy using the Mingle Forum plugin.

What it looks like:

To activate this plug-in, go to Plugins in the left menu column, and scroll down to find “Mingle Forum.” Click Activate.

You will then see Mingle Forum in the left menu column.

Customize the Mingle Forum settings according to your preferences. If you would like to enable any users who may not have a MIIS username and password to leave comments or questions, make sure to uncheck the box next to “Registration required to post”.

Once your settings are saved, click on Forum Structure.

The “category” is the overarching topic and “forum” is the sub-topic.

Click add new to create a category.

Enter the name and a description (optional) and click Save category.

To add a forum as a sub-topic, click Add forum under the appropriate category. Enter the name and description and click Save forum.

You have now created the forum and customized the settings, but you now need to make the Mingle Forum display on your blog.

To do this, create a new page.

Type [mingleforum] in the body of the text. Click Publish.

Now that you have created the forum page, go back to the Menu under Appearance and make sure the newly created page is included in the main menu. If it isn’t, click the appropriate box for the newly created page and click Add to Menu and then Save Menu.

Click Plugins in the left menu column and check the extensive list to see if any would be beneficial for your blog.

Click Visit plugin site to check out screenshots and descriptions of the various plugins. If you decide to use a specific plugin, simple click Activate under the name of the plugin.

But remember that WordPress runs faster with fewer plugins, so deactivate ones that are not in use.

For example, you  can activate the Prezi Shortcode blog:

Once you have activated this plugin a prezi icon will appear on your Visual Toolbar.  Click on this icon and you will be able to add in your Prezi url then click Insert:

1. Make sure you are logged on and in the editing interface for the content you wish to edit.
2. Scroll down to the “Image” menu.
3. Select the menu, and being typing in the name of your image (Ex. “peter_shaw_thumbnail”)
4. Select the image.
5. Optional: Please also set the “Image Alt Text” field, a short description of the image, including relevant keywords.
6. “Save” your changes. The image will automatically be pulled into the top right corner of your webpage.

2) Next open up the editing interface of the webpage you have created and select the Paste from Word Button and paste the material you would like to use into this screen:

3) Click Insert, and your content will automatically be pasted into the body of your web page:

4) You may have to change the adjust the “Format” of the headers to Heading 2.  Also, please double check that your links are not broken after you save the new draft of your webpage.

In order to add a new link, select the text you would like to be made into a link, and then select the “Insert/Edit link” button to add the link to the “Link URL” field. You don’t need to worry about completing the other fields in the “Insert/Edit Link” window.

1) In order to resize your photo, open the photo with Photoshop, then select “Image,” and select “Image Size.”

2) This will pull up  a new window and allow you to designate the width and/or height of photo in pixels. At this time, since the width value is larger than the height value, set the height to 180 pixels.

Please note: If the height value is larger than the width value, you will adjust the width to 238 pixels in this step and then crop the image to 180 pixels.

2) We’re now going to crop the width of the photo to 238 pixels. Select the crop tool from the Photoshop tools menu on the left side of your screen.

3) Set the crop dimensions:

• Width: 238 pixels.
• Height: 180 pixels.

4) Select the region of the photo you would like to include in your crop dimensions:

This will automatically crop the unwanted area out of your photo.  All you need to do is press “Return,” “Save As,” and add it to your webpage!

To use the Links widget, you will first need to set them up by clicking on Links in the left menu column. Then click Add New.

Enter the name of the link as you want it to show up in the list, the web address, and a description. Then click Add Link.

Note: The links will show up in alphabetical order of the “Name” of the link.

Once you are done setting up your links, go back to the Widgets, under Appearance.

Drag the Links widget into the Sidebar and configure the settings as you please.

Click Save.
