Sharing a message from Middlebury President Ron Liebowitz to all faculty, staff and students, and a photo of the memorial that some of our staff have created in McCone.
To the College Community,
You have most likely heard about yesterday’s shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. Though exams are almost complete, and many have left campus to be with family and friends for the holiday break, let us all extend our thoughts and prayers to those affected by this horrific tragedy.

Dear Monterey Institute Community,
Please join the CACS staff tomorrow, Wednesday the 19th, from 3:45 – 4:00 for a few moments of reflection on the tragedy in Connecticut. We will meet at this impromptu memorial in the McCone lobby. All are welcome.
In the Spirit of Peace,
~ Maggie

I was appalled and deeply saddened by the senseless act of violence. I urge everyone to do everything they can to prevent the recurrence of such an event. A total ban on all firearms would be ideal but I realize it’s impossible in this country. At a minimum, we should adopt much more restrictive regulations with respect to the number and types of firearms available and access for criminals and individuals with mental conditions associated with violence. Then and only then can we do justice to the innocent lives lost last Friday.
